Understanding perspectives in photography - an illustrated view
81
I've already done one hub on perspective in photography but some people seem to confuse it with convergence, on which I've done another hub and you'll find them here under photography.
So I thought I'd do another hub and in looking at perspective which is something of a broad term I was quite surprised how many of the photos showed aspects of convegence, some by accident, some by design, some occurring quite naturally as part of the natural setting of the photo.
Perspective has been described as the way that an object appears to the eye, and not only the human eye, here we have the eye of the camera which must then translate to a perspective both from the photographer and as seen by the viewer.
An experienced photographer understands the concept well and applies it almost automatically but to those less experienced it may at first appear difficult to comprehend.
Some think it just means the conversion of a 3D picture to a 2D photograph, but that of itself requires a lot of explanation.
I think the easiest way for you to grasp the idea is if I take you, once more, through a different series of photos but may I start by giving you the link to my previous hub on perspective and the first image there is a beauty.

You may also like to look up my post on convergence and I think the first image there is even better.
Convergence is part of the perspective, the two terms are NOT interchangeable.
But I think that is enough by way of words and I take you to the photos selected from the web to illustrate perspective not for their superlative photographic excellence although some do have features of that.

Wow. Great & Inspiring Photos!
I really liked the two in black and white... Now I feel inspired to experiment with taking things from a different perspective even if I already thought I knew what would look good!
Beautiful Photography. I would love to have the ability to take pictures this beautiful. Great hub.

It looks really cool , call me for my pictures at 1-800-Tyson Ray. or tysonray.com
I love this hub. Your writing is original and the photos are beautiful.
What beautiful pictures, and very well explained. I have always loved photographs but only recently started taking my own- as in for art rather than family photo albums! I am trying to learn as much as possible and your hubs seem like a great place to start. Thanks!
great images, great hub. I really liked the red winged blackbird...since I like to do oil painting, I appreciate the lessons on perspective. Thanks.
Wow. You have a keen eye on these things. I wonder what keywords you used to look for these photos.
I sure enjoyed the article. Great selection of images...it gave me quite a few new ideas for my next shoot. Thanks so much!
Very nice! It makes me want to grab my wife's Nikon and try taking a few hub pictures!
my eyes right now are the luckiest eyes in the world!!
The photos tell your story well. A review of photography techniques is especially helpful as I make the transition back to a fine SLR camera, after several years of discouraging, "point and shoot" picture taking.
Nice lesson on perspective. Thanks!
Nice article and some fantastic examples used.

these are just amazing. i agree that to be a photographer you need to have an artistic view.
Great pictures and the way you explain perspectives. We all see things for different reasons. Or should I say we all see things from a particular perspective

A marvelous guide to perspective, showing the many angles a photograph can come from. This helps me grow as a photographer.
And perspective has another meaning - it's the place from which we look - not only with our eyes or camera, but also how we look at life. Thanks for reminding me I can change my perspective. Voted up & awesome, & shared!
Photos are Beautiful, gives new idea on the angle to follow the same..
